Splendor in the Grass

I love summer for its warm weather, stone fruit, long days and weekend getaways. One of the latest hops skips and jumps was to Santa Cruz to stay at the yurt, a magical place I've been lucky enough to visit thanks to the generosity of Jess and David. Saturday we got provisions at the farmer's market, sun tanned, hiked, swam in the swimming hole, played banana grams, sang songs, ate plums picked from the plum tree, read our books and swung on the gigantic swing.

I was enchanted by the light of that day. We couldn't get enough of the beautiful sky, the fresh air and the warmth. When the evening came, we found ourselves all sprawled out in the grass. On cushions, in crazy creeks, some of us just plopped right down into the field - hence the twigs I found yesterday in my sock. It was the kind of night where you feel the world around you. It was perfect just like that. While drinking wine in tea cups and with the sun setting behind us, we watched the moon rise.

We didn't know it then, but cheers to California and the overturning of Prop 8! It's about time, golly gee. More love, more love, more love - that's what it's about.
